Share The Road - Training #1

Greetings!

Our journey began when I interviewed Gary Earl on a cool October morning after one of Tommy's (his son) baseball games. I interviewed them for my first documentary, "Boys of Summer". My girlfriend (now wife) Annamaria introduced me to Gary as she worked with him at Caesars Entertainment (on the corporate side - he ran the wellness programs for 50,000+ employees around the world). I worked at Caesars Palace (as Caesar -- I ruled the joint...seriously).

After the interview with Gary and Tommy (they didn't make the cut of "Boys of Summer -- but that wasn't their fault), Gary and I were just talking in general. He mentioned this crazy idea about riding a bike across country. I said, hey...that would make a good documentary. He agreed. And that, in almost every conversation about potential films/documentaries, is where they end. Fortunately for me, Gary was not one of "those" people with an idea that float out to nowhere. Gary, like me, says he's going to do something and he does it.

Flash forward a few months later -- Annamaria and I move from Las Vegas to Los Angeles so I can take another run at Hollywood (I lived there from 1994-2000). Gary had set a date for late June through end of July for our journey -- but that was loose as the details were still be worked out. I told him to keep me posted. He did. In early January -- he told me we were a go. I knew he was serious when a bike worth more than my truck showed up at my apartment. I had never ridden a road bike. I would be expected to ride approximately 100 miles a day over 35 days in just five months. I said yes.

Training:

Goal: to build up to 4-5 60-90 minute rides a week and one: "extender" road ride where I go a bit further each time.

Uh....enjoy? :)
