DAY 11
105 miles - 2500 foot climb
Mountainair to Santa Rosa, NM
A long ride today -- nothing terrifically spectacular, other than the fact that it was yet another century ride. I bring that up because it’s strange to think of them as “ho hum”. People train very hard just to do one of them. We’re doing them consecutively and doing them well. Now, mind you, we do have a support vehicle along the way. Frankly, I’d really like to try this trip (or something like it) without the vehicle. Because of it and the varied pace between riders, we only go about 20-25 miles at a time. Now, I realize, there’s no need to rush and that’s all good. But there is some seperatiion from the experience to me when I don’t get to go out and just connect to the ride itself.
I know this ride isn’t all about that -- it’s about the team experience and we are all comitted to that.
1/3 of the way through. That’s kind of crazy.
Santa Rosa was recommended from our old friend Charlie at the RV park in Socorro. It’s a good-looking town. There’s an awesome lake called the “Blue hole” where apparently they do SCUBA diving. Man -- I would like to do that. Another time.
We’re in a comfortable hotel -- the Comfort Inn, no less and will be in for the night. It’s nice to have a spa and the internet connection. I’m VERY hungry... |
