Share The Road - On the road - Day 5

As I mentioned, we have a re-route situation going on. There’s a major fire blazing in the mountains of Arizona. Apparently it’s the 2nd worst (largest) fire in recorded state history. We were supposed to roll through this area, but it may not even be open. The question of the smoke inhalation is the other issue. If we go south, we will be in much hotter conditions, but there doesn’t seem to be any fire...we’re looking into that.

I’m good with it either way -- if this was just me, I’d probably get up early and balls out the mountain. I really would like to see the beauty that it’s going to offer. These will be the last mountains we’ll see ‘til we get to Pennsylvania (I think). And they are unique mountains that I think would offer some awesome perspective and beauty. So we have to be realistic about this. I’ve been struggling with my ego, for sure. My ego says, “Screw it -- roll on! Go!” and that’s the competitor in me. Chris is doing a good job of reminding me of the team element here. He’s right in a lot of ways. We need to give a little (each of us) to come off of our individual positions and come closer together to the team heart. I know that’s right. It sounds right as I type it.

Last night was amazing. We stayed at a friend of Gary’s in Scottsdale, AZ (just outside PHX). It was one of the most beautiful houses I’ve ever been in. But beyond that was the kindness Dion and his girlfriend showed us. They hired a chef to cook us the most amazing meal. We had an excellent discussion about the tour -- something the four of us have not had the time or energy to do yet -- really talking about everything and why we’re involved. These are things I needed for the doc as well as for the heart and soul of the group. There was much bonding in that.

Distinct personalities are definitely coming to light with all of this. We work together and it’s working out very well. Time and patience -- I learn this over and over again. Yes, consciousness helps in terms of recognizing when certain things are going awry or a good path is available. At the same time, nothing can replace the passage of time and the gaining of experience. The gaining of experience.
