Share The Road - On the road - Day 7

Globe AZ to Show Low, AZ
Total Distance: 85 miles
Total Climb: 14,100 feet
NOTE: The total climb refers to the elevation we climbed. It does NOT mean we're anywhere near 14,100 feet at this point. That would be like...Kilimanjaro. ;)

Our biggest climb yet. The plan from the outset was to pace ourselves and I really did that. I let myself go 8 mph on the long climbs -- sometimes lasting as long as an hour. I could have pushed it harder, but it just kept coming back to me: "For What?" This isn't a race. I've sometimes treated it that way when I wanted to get out of the sun. But today we had some elevation which (presumably) would keep things cooler. We've also had many conversations as a group about the team element and trying to stay closer together. Though that messed with my ego a bit, the deflation of that bird is probably a good thing. I felt that happen today as I let Geoff and Gary race out in front of me and felt totally okay with it.

There were SO many beautiful picture moments. I'll have a link for pictures up soon.

I was -- check that -- AM wiped out, for sure. It's a good wipe out. We're comfortably in another Days Inn -- Gary said we earned it.

One thing I thought about today was the need to NOT rush through the post-production on this project. I have a ton of interviews at my disposal and I look forward to adding experts to what we're doing. It would be a good movie if it were just the journey -- but adding the experts and the outside companies that fit within what we're doing -- that will make the film GREAT. It may seem small to have that thought -- or obvious -- but I have a great feeling of peace about it. I've always been in a rush to get the film out. But now, I think because of my experience and having done a number of films, I'm ready to let this one take the time it needs -- let it lead me, in a way. I trust the story. I trust that I know what I'm doing. And I will do what I need to to make money in the meantime. It will be well.
